Yes. It's happening. And, Yes you can help out.
EarthFair Sunday, April 20th, Balboa Park
The annual EarthFair in Balboa Park is the
largest free annual environmental fair in the
world. EarthFair 2008 will be our 19th
anniversary. Each year, the EarthFair draws
around 60,000 visitors. Produced by 400
volunteers, EarthFair features more than 200
exhibitors, special theme areas, a Food Pavilion,
a special Kids Activity Area, five entertainment
venues, the Childrens Earth Parade (All Species
Welcome) and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Parade and
Show.... and FREE "VALET" BIKE PARKING.
SDCBC volunteers have provided the two bike
parking areas every year, parking nearly 500 bikes each year.
You can help SDCBC do this. Provide a friendly
service AND maybe get a free official EarthFair t-shirt.
Sign up at the EarthFair web site though it's a little challenging...

Team: Bicycle Parking
Shifts: 8 am to 11 pm
11 am to 2 pm
2 pm to 6 pm
Training: NR Not required for recent EarthFair volunteers
Description: We encourage visitors to take
alternative forms of transportation to EarthFair.
To make this as easy as possible we will have
free, guarded bicycle parking. The volunteers in
this area are responsible for assisting visitors
with checking their bicycles in and out, and for
providing security. Also, they will be greeters,
they will distribute EarthFair program guides,
information about bicycling in San Diego, and answer questions.

Getting There?
Bike Parking
EarthFair is the largest event that happens in
Balboa Park, and sixty-thousand people can create
real transportation problems. If you arrive after
about 10:30 am, there is often no CAR parking immediately adjacent to the Park.
Not to worry though ... we have some
suggestions that can help take the frustration out of getting there:
* Ride a bike. There is free, guarded bike
parking available in two locations:
* On Village Place (off of Park Blvd.,
south of the Zoo) behind the Natural History Museum
* In front of the Museum of Man, just over the Laurel St. bridge.
* If you don't want to ride the entire way to
the park, drive part way, park in a convenient
spot, and ride the rest of the way.
