A better sign would be for all highway users: caution merging traffic from the right. It should be assumed that highway users know what to do, when given such advance warning of things they might not otherwise have remembered or been aware of. For those coming from the right: lane ends, merge left.

Maybe a duck crossing sign? That would at least make both groups of road users give pause. ;-)

Do people know that merge means "find the next spot at or behind you into which you can slide smoothly", not "race ahead to the first place where you can intimidate someone into letting you shove in"?
