Others have first-hand details, but according to the account I read, he
snagged a fallen Eucalyptus branch in his front wheel while going about
10-12mph. A similar thing happened to me once -- I ran over a small piece of
wood and caught it just right to flip it into my rear spokes.

I can only offer my condolences to Sandy's family and his numerous friends.
