online survey gives public an opportunity to help create the region's First
comprehensive bike plan
Through an online survey of bicycle riding habits, SANDAG is gathering
information that will directly influence the final form of a comprehensive
system of bicycle routes throughout the region.
SANDAG held well attended workshops on the San Diego Regional Bicycle Plan
on June 24 and 25. A second set of workshops, scheduled for October, will
feature recommended plan alternatives and provide an opportunity to offer
ideas on refining those alternatives. Because planners want as much public
input as possible during this initial phase before moving forward with the
development of the plan, they created the survey.
The short questionnaire will help SANDAG determine where the gaps are in the
region's current system of bike paths, travel patterns, options for new
routes, and other important factors that influence how the network should
develop in the future.
To participate, go to this link before Aug. 31 and click on "Take the
Survey": www.sandag.org/bicycleplan
Currently, the San Diego region has more than 1,000 miles of bikeways -
mostly in-street bike paths, but also some separate rights of way.
When complete, the San Diego Regional Bicycle Plan will encourage the
development of a unified bicycle system throughout the region. It will serve
the needs of bicycle riders by identifying the best ways to provide
connections to local and regional activity centers, transit facilities, and
regional trail systems.
About SANDAG
The San Diego Association <http://www.sandag.org/> of Governments (SANDAG)
is the San Diego region's primary public planning, transportation, and
research agency, providing the public forum for regional policy decisions
about growth, transportation planning and construction, environmental
management, housing, open space, energy, public safety, and binational
topics. SANDAG is governed by a Board of Directors composed of mayors,
council members, and supervisors from each of the region's 18 cities and the
county government.
