As my favorite literary hero, Atticus Finch, says in To Kill a Mockingbird, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his
point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in
it." Try transportation walking and jogging as much as  I do, or try getting around in a mobility scooter, and you will quickly see just how beneficial it would be to eliminate all diverges (and corresponding free merges) such as this one. These structures belong only on limited access freeways themselves, not where they interface with the rest of the roadway system.
