One does not need to be a local to see that this is the typical scenario -- a high-speed road with CarTrance-engineered free diverges (two in a row) onto a freeway. We can talk all day about the benefits of vehicular lane positioning, but most cyclists, myself included, find taking a lane in 50mph traffic harrowing.
