Cheap Led lights.
Dear SDCBCers:
Hello! I shop dollar stores often, and it turns out the member of that
species on Miramar Road at Distribution Drive has a new shipment of
five-LED 2xAA battery rear lights with seatpost clamp as well as belt
clip. I've got to admit it's not a secure-looking mounting system (the
light snaps into place instead of sliding in and snapping in place), the
clear lens might off-put some, I've not tested the gasket for its
water-resistance and it's got some irritating blink patterns, but what
do you expect for a buck plus tax? Oh, the seat bracket could probably
be made to fit a rack with a p-clamp and perhaps two small washers.
The same store also had the sort of clip-on-visor button-cell powered
light Brian the LCI sports. These are nowhere near powerful enough to
meet the statutory requirement for headlamps or headlights in
California, but Brian told me they're sufficient for maps, streetsigns
and shining at close-proximity motorists. I should note here that
Brian's nocturnal steeds sport quite powerful main headlights. And I
should note these light, little lights are a buck plus tax.
The final illuminating item: A 2 pack of the Schraeder tire valve-stem
mounted red, blue and amber lights Kathy Keehan and I have been trying
out. They are a little dim, and they fufill no statutory safety
equipment regulation in California, and the ones I've been trying have a
distressing tendency to switch themselves off and on while the wheels
are in motion. However, they do look neat. And they're only a buck, plus
tax.
Honest I really have no financial interest in this store -- I just
browse the shelves there. A lot.
