Hi: Many of us do all our own work or at least the vast majority of it, I
certainly do. However there is no need to do so. These days doing your own
repairs is no more necessary than it is a to work on one's own automobile, many
ride on a daily basis with only rudimentary knowledge of how to fix their
bikes. (Of course one does need to be able to change a flat...) I understood the
original post to be asking about a nearby shop.

So, not knowing the exact locations involved, I will simply through out a few
shops I know of in the general area that I respect. These are all smaller
shops, "mom and pop" shops, that offer the kind of service and customer care
that we used to take for granted.

- http://blackmountainbicycles.com/ Limited experience with them but
definitely a shop that does the good work.

- Quality Bike in Clairemont My LBS, Susan and Xavier know their stuff and
take the time to make sure you get what you need.

- Adams Avenue Bikes Andrew Lee rekindled the defunct Adams Avenue with a
wonderful vision of the what biking in San Diego could be... (When you go
there, make sure you get Andrew to show you one of his special 22mm inner tubes,
he keeps these in stock.)

I am sure there are plenty of other shops where you can get good service with
a smile from someone who will take the time to not only do the job but help
you understand... Maybe the rest of you can chime in with suggestions of shops
that work for you.
