I do not know about bike parking.

But I am interested to know if the 'No Parking' are gone from the bike lane
southbound (up hill) on Torrey Pines.

On Saturday, I rode from Mission Valley to Oceanside to see the start of
RAAM for women. As I was descending down Torrey Pines hill around 9:15 AM, I
noticed that there were stand-alone no parking signs in the bike lane every
100 feet or so, about 20 - 40 of them. These signs were randomly positioned
in the bike lane, some to the left some to the right others in the middle.
The only sensible way to get through this maze was by taking the motor
vehicle lane, especially at the speed most cyclist descend this hill.

In Del Mar, I called 911. The person taking my information properly called
the situation obstacles in the traffic lane. While going through Solana
Beach I received a follow up call for more information.

When I returned south again around 2PM, all signs were to the far right
against the curb. However the bike lane is still very narrow in places here,
not wide enough for safe passage at speed.

I stopped to talk with an officer in a black and white half way up the hill.
He directed me to the station of the person in charge of traffic for the
golf event.

I visited the traffic control area and pled my case regarding the dangerous
downhill signs. Then I pedaled back to Mission Valley.

A friend who pedaled down the hill Sunday morning told me that the downhill
signs were all off the pavement and away from the bike lane at that time.

The uphill signs were still randomly placed in the bike lane as I climbed
Torrey Pines grade at 2PM. I decided not to emphasize them on the weekend,
concentrating on the more dangerous downhill ones first.

Does anyone know the status of the uphill signs now?

Does anyone know if there is any secure bike parking at the US Open or

in the area within 1 to 1/2 miles away?
