We're in agreement, John. I didn't say that making certain intersections
more bike friendly implies that all other intersections are inherently
unsafe. I said that making certain intersections safe specifically with
bike boxes implies that all other intersections (without bike boxes) are
unsafe, because almost all other intersections, in which through or straight
travel is allowed from the rightmost lane, so far as I can tell, share the
same characteristics that the bike boxes are supposedly addressing. And
your high-speed free merges and diverges are what I had in mind when I
wrote, "with a few isolated exceptions [in roads and designs] here and
there, none of which are addressed by bike boxes".
