Serge, I share your contempt for right-hook-generating bike boxes, Copenhagen-style bikeways, etc. However, I reject your "logical implication" that wanting to make certain intersections more bicycle- and/or pedestrian-friendly implies that all other intersections are inherently unsafe. I strongly advocate a multipronged approach to safety, incorporating elements of cyclist education, motorist education, individual accountability, and bicycle- and pedestrian-conscious traffic engineering. Eliminating a few high-speed free merges and diverges would benefit all of us.
