    The combination of the medication and the pacemaker finally  
appear to be helping Gordy reach his goal of lowering his heart rate  
in order have back surgery.  We are hoping that the date for the   
surgery actually gets scheduled within the next 2 weeks.  However,  
the wait these past two months has been costly:  he has now lost  
feeling in both legs; is using a wheelchair (can no longer use a  
walker); requires a hospital bed; has 24 hour care in the home; is  
extremely weak, and in very low spirits (as you can imagine.)  
Encouragement from ALL THE CYCLISTS is needed more than ever.
    As I watch the Tour de France on TV, I can see that the most  
difficult part of each stage is at the end...when the cyclists are  
exhausted yet the race demands they give more than ever.  My father  
knows what it is like to reach within himself to find the reserves  
that allow him to finish a time trial in record time.  He needs those
resources now to win this battle...and he needs support of his cycling
friends.  PLEASE send notes and cards of encouragement  
ASAP...think of it as cheering him on at the end of a race.  As  
always, thank you so much from my entire family, and from me.
