Thank you, Ken. Yes, Dan Burden ran our public discussions for the Leucadia 101 corridor streetscape. He is extremely well-informed, articulate, and personable. He has done his homework. He claims that bike lanes provide 22 benefits, some subtle, to motorists and pedestrians, and I tend to believe him.
Our problem on the north 101 is simple -- we urgently need to slow traffic by 10 to 15 mph / 15 to 25 kph for the sake of our residents and business owners, as well as for the safety of our bicyclist, pedestrians, and even motorists. Today's cars ride so smoothly and quietly that they lull John Q. Public into a false sense of security and eliminate many traditional speed-checking cues. Mr. Burden knows how to inject external visual cues to get speeds back under control.

traffic-calming expert extant (whom many of us have heard) who said that. I
swore I wouldn't get into the bike lane debate, but there really IS someone
out there who thinks color helps traffic calming. And yes, there are many
studies that measured results, but I doubt if that will convince most of the
posters here. Here are some excerpts:
