Hmm. You make a valid point. Several years ago we hired an engineer from
London. He and I were walking to lunch and I noticed a fairly large hole
in the sidewalk, about 2 feet square and more than a foot deep. I
commented that someone should put barricades around it else some elderly
old lady might take a tumble and sue someone. He looked at me and said,
"In England, if that happened they'd say, `You stupid old woman -- why
weren't you watching where you were going?'"
