[SDCBC] Pet peeve: cyclists have "no choice" but to beunsafe/crazy

If we had a wide enough right-of-way to accomplish this, I would concur, but
along north Coast Highway 101 through Leucadia, eliminating on-street
parking is clearly NOT an option. The Town Council wants a two-way bike path
on the east side of 101, but access for southbound cyclists would be a
disaster, and this would presumably eliminate left turn options for
northbound cyclists. A better option is a north-only Class II on the east
side of 101, akin to the one in Solana Beach, and perhaps a south-only Class
II on the west side of Vulcan Av., where on-street parking is unfortunately
probably also required. This would force southbound cyclists wishing to use
the Class II to turn left at La Costa Av. and then left back onto the 101 at
either Leucadia Bl., Encinitas Bl., D St, E St, or Chesterfield, but it
would mimic the route I already generally choose when I ride from my
Leucadia home to, say, the Oceanside Pier or to work in the Carlsbad Airport
Centre business park.

I believe better bike lanes such the as the 56 trail and no parking next
to bike lanes are still the safest bet for everyone involved. Taking the
lane creates hostility in this city. Try the 101 when there is an accident
on the 5 and it is a two-lane temporary "highway" with LA drivers ready to
kill you. Try taking the lane then. Recently, that was the case.
