Tom Fudge, the host for the weekday 9AM to 11AM (Mon - Thur) program
"These Days" (89.5 on FM) will be commemorating the one year
anniversary of his nearly fatal bike-car crash with - I'm told - some
discussion of Bike Lanes, traffic safety, etc. at the 9AM portion of
the program on Wednesday April 16th.

I suggested to him some professionals re: Bike Lane
installation/operation... including Roger Geller, Bike guy in
Portland, Oregon... as well as some local folks though I failed to
give him Brad Jacobsen's phone number. If asked again I'd get him
Brad's number.
Might be an interesting discussion... likely available later via
podcast (http://www.kpbs.org/radio/these_days), but

Please consider setting aside some time to listen and maybe call-in
with comments/questions.

Tom's crash occurred at the intersection of Montezuma Rd and
Collwood. He was east-bound on his way to work up Montezuma from the
Normal Heights area. He had been a regular bicycle commuter, but I'm
told that he has since given up bicycling in car traffic.

I don't know exactly where he was struck, whether:
in the straight-through bike lane between the RTOL and straight through lanes,
in the side of the road bike lane approaching the RTOL,
somewhere between the end of the shoulder-side bike lane and the
straight-through bike lane,
in the shoulder of the RTOL,
or somewhere else.

In any case to often bicycling in presence of bike lanes at an
intersection ain't easy.

Tom once recorded and later broadcast a Bike to Work Day ride as
stoker for me on the back of one of my tandems. He has had both Kathy
and I as on-air interviews several times. He has been a regular
visitor to Adams Ave bike shop. His commute is from Normal Heights
area to SDSU... I've never known his route.
