I read this story and it made me think of our cyclist education programs and the one kind of driver we really can't trust.

Have you ever had "just a little", but driven anyway? Are you afraid that you'd be unfairly locked up for years or lose your driving privilege forever for "just a small error in judgement"? Then you, like me, are part of a culture that inhibits lawmakers from doing something about this situation:
Jerome had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence seven times in the past 11 years, four of those in the past four years. At the time of Jerome's fatal crash, he was on probation for two previous DUI offenses and had an outstanding warrant for an arrest in connection with a DUI.
“This was the worst I've ever seen and the worst a lot of people here have seen,” Deputy Gibson said. What really startled deputies was Jerome's history of DUI offenses. “This case, more than any other, ticks me off,” said Deputy Gibson. “This guy should've been prosecuted for a felony. Why he wasn't, I don't know.”
Attorney Kerry Armstrong said that in San Diego, a person convicted of drunken driving isn't likely to get jail time if there were no injuries. Most people get four days in jail for a second conviction, 120 days for the third and 180 days for the fourth. People convicted of a fifth DUI usually go to prison for two years. In most cases, they serve about half that time.
So pledge with me: if you drink, you can EXPECT CONSEQUENCES if you drive, so DON'T.
Next up: Are you giving your body and mind enough rest out of every 24 hours?
Sincerely,
-- Trevor
