Regarding fixies and "real hills", I regularly ride my fixed gear
(34-16 gearing) on the Great Western Loop, which most of you are
familiar with. I've even ridden it from my home in Spring Valley to
the top of Mt. Laguna a couple of times. The low gearing also makes
it easier to control my downhill speed.
My commuter bike is a fixed gear, 46-22 gearing. I ride from Spring
Valley to Mira Mesa on it.
"Young and fit"? Well, my fitness may be a matter of debate. But I'm
about to turn 50 so I'm certainly not young,
Enjoy,
Tom
