Chris
You are right on.

If there were four Ghost Bikes at an intersection maybe the conditions would change. This is a very high price to pay to regain the lost streets.

  Hello,

A ghost-bike sounds like a good idea if the person responsible for the site (maybe the property owner) agress with the idea of placing such a monument on their property.

I am afraid that many land owners / managers would not agree with the idea because Ghost-Bikes are obtrusive and bring up an unpleasant (but sad and important) memory.

It might be easier to place a less obtrusive monument wherever a fellow biker has "fallen" - maybe something that would be less obtrusive and maybe a little more permanent. I could even see placing less obtrusive markers at older sites that might not have any marker now.

Each time a marker is placed it could raise awareness and stir interest in older markers too.

  Chris

Every Ghost Bike is A Caution

Every Ghost Bike is a caution and a safety reminder for riders and drivers. Maybe the Ghost Bike should have a broken light and mini stop sign?

I do not know the whole story of what happened here. Did the rider ride out into a normal well designed intersection and was stuck by an attentive slow moving car or the traffic signal mis timed and mis focused for bike riders; so that a driver talking on the phone and driving in excess of a safe speed hit him? Unless you think it was suicide there may be more to the story than a anti-bike biased witness had to say.

I just do not know yet. I do know that if I was driving in the City and had a burnt out car head light I do not think that gives everyone a free license to kill me.

Monuments are for the living. A Ghost Bike reminds us of the conflict and may advance the struggle.

    Hi:

Maybe there would be a way to incorporate a message in the GHOST BIKE that it is wise to have a light at night and not run stop signs...

It would seem like that might be a good message that this sadly departed cyclist could convey to those still on this side.

    Just a thought...

    Jon
