[SDCBC] Bike lane removed in Sorrento Valley

Thanks for posting, Diane. Yes, we fought (and won) this precise battle 8 or 9 years ago -- the city had re-striped the road from two main lanes and two bike lanes to four identical lanes, and SDCBC convinced traffic engineering to restore the previous configuration. Serge and I can endlessly argue the merits of narrow outside lanes versus wide outside lines versus bike lanes, but the city is overlooking another huge liability factor, the quarter-mile missing link in the sidewalk between Directors Pl. and Lusk Bl., where pedestrians are now forced by the hillside to walk in the traffic lane. I used to walk or jog almost every morning from the Sorrento Valley train station up to my office on Morehouse, and I can personally attest that it was pretty scary to encounter 50mph curb-hugging trafic whilst rounding that blind curve, or to have traffic creeping up on my back on the return trip at night. I thought the city had agreed not to go to four lanes until
the right-of-way was widened (expensive) to accommodate full sidewalks and bike lanes.

Best regards,

John

Subject: [SDCBC] Bike lane removed in Sorrento Valley

Hi,

This morning, driving to work I noticed that Vista Sorrento Parkway,
heading north has been reconfigured.
I am not sure of the name of the street where it begins but it is the
signal just north of Mira Sorrento Place and goes all the way to
Lusk. As recently as last week, this was a one land road with a
bike lane. This morning there are two south --> north traffic
lanes and no bike lane anymore.

As a frequent user of this bike lane and road in my car, I don't see
a need for a second traffic lane. I DO see a need for the bike lane.
Make no mistake, I don't have a problem with taking the lane when
necessary however, I don't feel that this road warrants two automobile
 lanes.

Seems like this road was reconfigured much the same a while back,
 wasn't it?

I am not sure if the same thing has happened in the other direction
but I will travel that way later today and I will check.

Is there someone I can call or email to voice my disagreement with this
 action?

Thanks,

--Diane
