Hello all!
The previous Wednesday I attended a Pacific Beach Town Council meeting
about parking. It got deadly when the folks there assembled realized a)
the consultant's eminently sensible presentation was directed towards
metered street parking and permitted residential parking and b) that
while the PB Parking Assessment district would get the funds from the
meters and other payers, it'd be only 45% of the take.
Among the carrots, the consultant held out a "bike station" with
showers and other amenities for velopedal commuters. Those familiar with
Garnet Avenue and the beach area are probably aware of a gratifyingly
high rate of use of the blue bike racks the city had put on the streets
a few years back. However, I found myself agreeing with the owner of a
sandwich shop. Her staff are starting to come from outside the PB area.
How would someone who could afford a beach cruiser, maybe a 3 speed,
cope with the commute down and up Balboa or to/from Mission Hills,
especially for the first time? It'd be better to give employers
sbsidized transit passes, except the last time I checked into the City's
program to do just that, they'd a 1,000 employee threashhold on what
employers could use the the subsidy....
Details should be a few clicks away from here:
