I find it amazing how often you get this sort of shocked sense of gratitude from motorists when
all you've done is either "the right thing," or extended what my father used to call "common
courtesy."
Doesn't speak well for the actions of the larger cyclist/motorist population.
Started riding, recently, with a former co-worker who recently took it up. He blows signs AND
lights. I mentioned my feelings about it ... once. He didn't change. For now, I get a little
extra motivation/exercise every time I have to chase him down. In the future ... not sure if I'll
still choose to ride with him.
'nother long-winded quasi rant: had coffee at Twiggs (UniHeights) two weeks ago. Watched a
cyclist TOTALLY blow the stop sign. Lady who HAD the right of way, in her car, lightly tooted the
horn at the cyclist. Cyclist then, dramatically, flipped HER the bird.
I just don't want to be associated with any part of it. Hard for ME to believe that this woman's
impression of cyclists, generally, wasn't colored by that experience.
I believe that would be my $0.04 ... or more ;-p
