Kathy Keehan wrote a letter demanding bicycle facilities at a 252 unit housing facility and shopping center and the City Council agreed. The developer agreed to install bicycle facilities at the to be planned multi unit housing and shopping center. The Housing Commission only agreed to try their very best to accommodate bikes for seniors. The Housing Commission staff did not think that Senior facilities would have bikes coming to visit or going from it.

Donna Frye identified that the housing developer was trying to claim an exemption because seniors do not ride bikes, Scott Peters questioned the senior city engineer who said that senior projects are exempt from having bike facilities...Donna saw through to truth as only Donna can.

The implementation of the developers promise must be watched but it was a victory for a well written letter. Thanks Ms. Keehan you are the greatest. (To view the discussion watch City Council streaming video for 6/26 2PM item 333)

It looks like the legislative action calendar should include some work on whether retired seniors ride bikes and need to have bike facilities.. A thank you to Scott Peters and Donna Frye would be in order. Ms. Betsy Morris of the Housing Commission needs to hear about active senior bike riders.

Council President Scott Peters looked out for the biking community today and made it happen. A big thank you to Scott.

All the best

Subject: [SDCBC] yield, stop, or service

It's in the news again. I wasn't aware that Idaho recently added a go-after-stop provision for cyclists at red lights, to accompany the go-after-yield for stop signs.

The reason the law passed is that cyclists traded the right to be treated as equals. Traffic detectors will not be retrofitted to detect presence of bikes.
