I've used both, and when mapquest removed the satellite view feature
a few years ago, google had just released their maps. Great timing
for google.

Personally I think google refreshes faster, and the hybrid mode gives
more to the maps, and the special features (API and "hacks") that are
available through google maps makes google the heads up better tool.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Maps for some of these
special features.

See http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ for a tool to click off miles and
determine best routes.
