"Cyclist take the left lane," assuming they can safely merge across two fast right-turn-only lanes to get there. That in itself can be problematic. It also does nothing for the plight of pedestrians.
CarTrance likes to put metering traffic signals where onramps meet the freeway. This can be a real problem for those of us who choose to drive underpowered cars, and it does nothing to calm traffic at the free diverge at the beginning of the onramp. Perhaps the metering signals should be placed at the entrances to the ramps, instead. This admittedly does not solve the car storage problem, but it does have potential benefits for other road users.

... If there were no bicycle lane, then the would be room for a straight through lane and two right turn lanes for getting on I-5. Cyclists take the left lane and all is well.
