This might seem like a nit, but that's a very different statement.  I agree
bike lanes are often very safe places to be, and often certainly safe enough
to ride in.  I just don't know that they are ever the SAFEST place to be,
which you seemed to imply had to be the case for you to ride in one : "If
the safest place to be is not the BIKE LANE, I will not be riding in the
BIKE LANE".

Again, the only reason I know of to ever be in a bike lane is to make it
more convenient for faster traffic to pass, and I'm willing to use them for
that purpose, when it's safe and reasonable to do so.  But if I didn't use a
bike lane unless it was the SAFEST place to be, I would probably never use a
bike lane at all.

Anyway, if there are pylons, parked cars or whatever blocking a bike lane, I
don't see what the problem is.
