The bike path along the south side of the Highway 56 freeway
in Carmel Valley is now connected to the south end of the
remaining portion of Old Carmel Valley Rd. by a paved alley
running under the freeway. (Thomas 1188 D6)

Automobile access to this alley is blocked by bollards at the
end of Old Carmel Valley Rd., but bicyclists can easily ride
between them.

If you are biking this way, the alley makes a good shortcut.
It is quite steep, but the asphalt pavement is new and smooth.

On the north side of the freeway, there is an unpaved
path from this alley to Carmel Knolls Dr. It is ridable
on a mountain bike, but road cyclists will have to walk
in some places.

For the most part, the alley and path merely restore
connections that were destroyed when Highway 56 was
turned into a freeway.
