*San Diego, Ca.,* December 1, 2006 – Brent Kay, M.D. of OUCH Sports Medical
Center, a leading Sports Medicine practice in Temecula, Ca., today announced
that OUCH will present the David Witt Memorial Holiday Cycling Classic on
December 17, 2006 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the San Diego Velodrome. An elite
track cycling event to benefit the families of firefighters from USFS Engine
crew 27 who lost their lives battling the Esperanza fire, the fundraiser
will feature some of the world's top cyclists including 2006 Tour de France
winner Floyd Landis and top American professional Dave Zabriskie.
Held in memoriam for David Witt, a longtime leader in the San Diego cycling
community and founder of Hawthorns restaurant near the velodrome, the
fundraiser will focus on giving back to the community in his name.
"I was born and raised in the area of the fire and along with my many long
time friends, family and business associates, have tremendous sympathy for
those that have suffered," said Dr. Kay. "Along with many other cyclists I
train regularly in Idyllwild and ride by the fire station where the fallen
firefighters were stationed. I'm honored to present this event and would
like to thank the countless individuals who have contributed to make this a
reality."
The marquee event will be a celebrity exhibition ride featuring Landis,
Zabriskie, World Champion Sarah Hammer and *Versus* television commentators
Bob Roll and Robbie Ventura along with special guests Dr. Allen Lim and Dr.
Arnie Baker. There will also be a sanctioned elite track race and a
fundraising auction of jerseys autographed by the world-class cyclists in
attendance.
