SDCBC Announcements for March 7, 2008 - Padres Announce 'Cycling Sundays' at
Petco, Ride and Learn, Road II Class,
Padres Announce 'Cycling Sundays' at Petco Park. Starts on April 6th, and
continues all 2008 season long for every Padres Sunday home game, so ride
from home or choose your own Park and Pedal location for a low-stress,
healthy and green way to go to the Sunday afternoon game, and support the
new Bicycle Parking Pavilion - its secure and free. Thanks to the Padres for
creating this great green alternative for getting to the ballgame!
Ride and Learn - Sunday, March 9. Part learning experience, part coffee
jaunt, these rides welcome all riders, but are geared for beginners. If you
would like an introduction to road riding, riding in a group, or just a nice
morning out with some fun bicyclists, this is a ride for you. The rides are
typically 8-10 miles, flat, and we do it at a pace that encourages talking
and interaction (somewhere around 8-12 mph average, depending on the group).
We talk a lot, stop a lot, and usually eat or at least bring doughnuts,
while getting information about riding in various situations. No
registration required - just show up and ride! Meet at Cactus Park (10610
Ashwood St., Lakeside) for a ride along some very lovely bike paths and
streets in Lakeside. Meet at 9:30 for 9:45 start. Please remember that
Daylight Savings time starts this weekend. Change your clocks (Forward 1
Hour) Saturday night before you go to bed. We hope to see you Sunday.
Volunteer Night Wednesday, March 12th. We'll be folding our bi-monthly
membership mailing, trading stories, and having good food and drinks. 6:30
to 8:30 p.m. at our downtown office, 740 13th St, Suite 220. Don't miss it!
Road II Class offered: In Clairemont, April 12, 19, 26 and May 3rd. If
you've taken Road I and are looking for your next educational opportunity,
this is the one for you! Registration required. Check the Coalition website
<http://www.sdcbc.org> www.sdcbc.org for more details.
Volunteers needed! There will be many opportunities for volunteering at the
Coalition in the coming months as bicycling season ramps up. Here's a sample
of what we need -
- Tabling team. We've got several opportunities to staff a table at
various community events, such as Earth Fair at SDSU, Bike to Work Day,
Velodrome Swap Meet, SDBC Barrio Logan race, and others. We need a couple of
enthusiastic individuals who are willing to tell the good story of the
Bicycle Coalition. Training provided.
- Office work. We need a few good people who are comfortable with
the computer for various database duties. Mostly data entry with some light
filing, answering the phone, etc. Daytime weekdays.
- Event planner. We're considering having a fundraising event, and
need some help planning and executing. If you like to throw a good party,
this is a good job for you!
