Volunteer at first-ever "Pedal to the Air Show": October 3 - 5, 2008

In partnership with the Marines, SDCBC will be organizing
and staffing the first-ever, bicycle-friendly alternative for Air Show
visitors. It will feature a secure, staffed, locks-optional Bicycle Parking
Pavilion (BPP). Cyclists will be able to ride their bike from any point of
origin, to the primary base gates, and will be directed by traffic control
on the base to the Coalition BPP (located beside the central of 3 pedestrian
Flight Line gates to the Show).

We will employ a wristband ID system similar to EarthFair
and Petco Park bike parking systems. Visitors can enjoy the Show and come
back to reclaim their bike anytime. The BPP will operate during all Air Show
hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, October 3, and Sunday, October 5, and 8 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Saturday, October 4 (includes twilight show).

Dave White wants to hear from all interested volunteers:
p2park at san.rr.com or 619-881-5765.

Learn to Ride on the Road: Classes in July and August

Learn laws and techniques for safe road riding. Click here for a detailed
description of the Road I class. The next two series are in Oceanside on
July 12, 19 and 26 or August 2, 9 and 16. Register at City of Oceanside Park
and Rec site.

Beware of Cyclist Ticketing:

A fellow SDCBC member has heard that police officers are ticketing cyclists
for running the red light turning left/east from Southbound N. Torrey Pines
Road into UCSD at LJ Shores Drive. Apparently cyclists are not able to
trigger the left green arrow and are treating it as a stop sign. For this
they are getting ticketed.
